World Taekwondo Championships 2019

Between the 11th and 20th May 2019, PACT have provided around 25 staff to the hundreds of athletes for the World Taekwondo Championships which saw 150 counties taking part.

The clinical team consisted of A&E consultants, Advanced and Emergency Care practitioners, Nurses, Paramedics, Ambulance crew’s and specialist practitioners such as Physiotherapist’s and a podiatrist.

Staff were providing 24 hour services throughout the week manning a walk-in-centre located at the athletes hotel to deal with minor illness and injuries. A fully equipped Emergency Department which was situated in the arena with ultrasound scanners, blood analysers, ECG machines and two fully equipped resuscitation bays. As well as the stationary facilities PACT had three frontline ambulances ready to transfer patients to local hospitals if needed and we had paramedic and nurse lead teams mat side to respond to incidents on the mat during fights.

The PACT team was able to prevent admissions to local hospitals by seeing and treating patients quickly and effectively.

We are very grateful for the support from World Taekwondo and the commissioned doctors. We also say a massive thank you to the wonderful medical team who provided outstanding care to over 150 athletes.
